Balding Itchy Scalp – Natural Remedies to Treat a Balding Itchy Scalp

A balding itchy scalp can be a difficult thing to endure. The hair loss can be sudden, and the accompanying itch can drive you mad. What can you do to treat an balding itchy scalp problem, and are there any natural remedies to take care of, and cure it?

Is A Balding Itchy Scalp A Normal Part Of Pattern Baldness?

An itchy scalp is not a symptom of male or female pattern baldness (the most common natural form of balding and hair loss. The fancy medical name for this is Androgenetic Alopecia. Pattern baldness is currently understood to be mainly a genetic and hormonal problem due to androgens particularly an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and is not seen to be accompanied by an itchy scalp.

This could be good news as in most cases of balding itchy scalp, the hair loss is only temporary and not permanent. So by treating and curing the itchy scalp condition, your hair should eventually grow back.

Therefore, if you are suffering from a balding itchy scalp it could be one of the following:

Ringworm (tinea capitis) – this is a particularly aggressive and contagious fungus that can produce symptoms like red, itchy burning patches on the scalp, hair loss and if left untreated can lead to cicatricial alopecia, i.e. permanent hair loss.

Ringworm requires some pretty tough treatment to clear it up and I would recommend you see your doctor or dermatologist for advice on this. Most prescriptions involve a medication like miconazole, clotrimazole or similar ingredients. There are natural antibiotics available that can be used to tackle this nasty fungal infection.

Psoriasis is an extremely common condition, and psoriasis of the scalp can lead to temporary hair loss. It is normally identifiable as white scales on patches of very red skin, severe itching and temporary baldness on the affected areas.

Natural Remedies To Treat A Balding Itchy Scalp

First thing to do is look at your shampoo and bathing habits. Have either of these changed lately? Are you using a new shampoo? Have you recently had your hair dyed or been to the hairdressers?

Often times the beginnings of scalp reactions and infections can be traced back to the products we put on our hair. Look out for harsh chemicals that dry out your scalp like Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) – as this will only serve to aggravate your balding itchy scalp problem.

Try using a shampoo containing Zinc Pyrithione (the natural stuff, not the synthetic one). This is commonly used as an anti-dandruff ingredient, as it has very strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

Home remedies that make use of birch or avocado oil are extremely effective in soothing and healing psoriasis.

Natural essential oils such as Tea Tree, Rosemary, Lavender and Manuka are superb at treating balding itchy scalp problems and can even stimulate hair growth. Combined with a scalp massage they can alleviate the symptoms of balding itchy scalp.

You Cannot Cure Psoriasis – Then Read This!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It is often been said and indeed I have read it in many articles: you cannot cure Psoriasis.

You can live with it and tame it to a certain extent but your cannot cure it.

Sadly it is a lifelong condition and there is currently no cure, but there may well be times when the disease is in recession and it will not be so apparent on your body Although the complicated skin disorder may not be with you from childhood, once you have it will be with you for the rest of your life.

Lets just recap as to what this disease is:

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory, non-contagious skin disease. Characterized by itchy, thick and raised red areas of skin covered with silvery-white scales, psoriasis affects 1 in 50 adults. This affliction makes it one of the world’s most common skin disorders. Appearing at any age, it can affect relationships, the ability to work and to enjoy leisure activities, and it cannot be cured only controlled. Or so it is said; now listen to this story:

An acquaints of mine suffered very badly from Psoriasis, lets call him Joe.

Joe came from a family of butches. His great grandfather stated a butches shop…Joes grandfather continued with the shop and with his son (Joe’s father) build up a chain of shops in towns around the midlands of England.

Joe was expected to work in the family business and when it came time to leave school; Joe asked if he could go to University and study but his father said no that it was Joes duty to continue the family tradition and continue to work and build up the butches business.

Not having a choice or money to do otherwise Joe became a master butcher and worked with his father in the business.

Joe also devolved Psoriasis during this time and as the years went by; the Psoriasis came and went and Joe went to doctors and tried creams and all the other treatments but to no avail.

When Joes father died, he was left with a thriving business and Psoriasis, which was slowly getting the better of him, no matter what he did.

One day, Joe, at the end of his tether, went to see a counsellor. After many sessions the counsellor said to Joe ” you are the wrong person in the wrong skin at the wrong time”.

Joe thought about this for some time and decide that the counsellor was right. So he sold up his business and went on to University where is very happy and content.

When Joe sold the business, so the Psoriasis left and has not returned.

I have nothing to add to this story expect to give a quote from Louise Hay’s book “You can heal your life “(ISBN 978-1-4056-4382-5). Louise says that suffers of Psoriasis should say this affirmation daily to themselves::::I am alive to the joys of living. I deserve and accept the very best in life. I love and approve of myself.

How Do These Name Brand Skin Anti-Aging Products Work

There is absolutely no limit to the amount of money a person can spend on name brand skin anti-aging products, from those that are meant to reduce puffiness around the eyes to those that promise to reduce wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and mouth. Every corner of your face has a certain product or serum available to it. There are even specialized products that are meant for the hands and feet! Heaven forbid anyone should have a wrinkle on their hand or dry spot on their feet – there are name brand skin anti-aging products for just such areas as well. If you have age spots or calluses or dry skin on your hands or heels, you can find a cream or ointment to take care of it, if you’re willing to spend the money.

Is there really any difference between these name brand skin anti-aging products and those you might find at a mass market retailer or pharmacy? Are you only paying for the name on the box, or is there something more to it?

Obviously every product is different, and just because some celebrity’s face is on the marketing campaign doesn’t necessarily make the product they’re touting any better. However, sometimes you do get what you pay for, and this can be true when it comes to name brand products.

It’s the Ingredients

When looking at the labels of both generic and name brand skin anti-aging products, you need to be concerned with the active ingredients. Most other elements listed are simply preservatives, the cream base, and so on.

Retinol is one of the best ingredients for skin care; it is a derivative of Vitamin A, which many dermatologists know is healthy for the skin. Aloe Vera and grape seed oil are two great natural moisturizers for the skin and are absorbed better than most. Vitamin E is also a healthy natural moisturizer for the skin.

Which Anti-Aging products are the best?

Everyone is going to react differently to different creams and serums, and this is true even with the most expensive name brand products. However, some of the best include N.V. Perricone, whose anti-aging creams contain peptides and proteins designed to replenish the skin. Boscia is a brand that is known for using all natural ingredients, specifically those found in tropical environments and so may be the best at protecting the skin from harsh outdoor elements.

Stri-Vectin is a line of products that were originally produced to combat stretch marks, but that also work well to eliminate wrinkles from the face.

Whatever product you decide to try, give it at least a month’s worth of regular use before you decide whether or not to continue. Some need this long to really be absorbed into the skin and to do what they’ve been designed to do.

Always consult your doctor before using this information.
